Sewage Sludge and Algae

We have also obtained good results from digested sewage sludge and algae. The primary products come from the triglycerides contained in these feeds. These products consist of aliphatic hydrocarbons with some oxygen containing molecules. After reaction, the reactor contents were a liquid phase containing the water and a heavy oil phase that was separated from the water phase.

The results from a GCMS analysis of the products obtained from treating digested sewage sludge are shown below. Very similar results were also obtained from treating algae. The tall peak at the left of the graph is carbon dioxide as this sample was analyzed before the sample was degassed. The products from the sewage and algae are much heavier than those obtained from the agricultural products. The sewage and algae reactions resulted in products containing up to 20 carbon atoms.
